<description>My wife and I are reading this book on pregnancy and the different stages in the development of an unborn child. It’s called: “Your Pregnancy Day by Day”. It states that babies in the womb do have emotions…. they do “feel” and show their displeasure or unhappiness. It also states that babies hear clearly from about the 20th week and different types of music can cause specific stimulations from the baby i.e., excitement or relaxation. I do know that at around the 14th week we heard the baby’s heartbeat at the doctors office. So I believe that the unborn child is “alive” both emotionally and in the same context as a born human being…. just in a different stage of development.

I believe that human life begins at conception.

I cannot speak for other parts of the world, but anti-abortionists here in Canada are pretty low key. There is no accosting women at clinics or hospitals. It did happen in the past, but abortion is government funded here. There are certain societies and countries where the anti-abortion AND pro-abortion “fundamentalists” are at the core of the debate no doubt. Unfortunately the minority of “fundamentalists” on either side of any issue are the ones who set the agenda, get the media spotlight. While those in the majority, who are in the middle, although they may have strong beliefs on either side of of an issue, believe as I do that everyone has the right to choose.

<description>I too found Francis&#039; comment interesting. However, I just a few opinions on some aspects of it if you don&#039;t me saying:

1) Francis said &quot; If doctors and medical researchers were so foolish and blind by ideology as to believe that babies were not “alive” in the womb&quot; -- When you use the descriptive word &quot;alive&quot;, in what context is it meant, is it meant like the foetus is emotionally alive in terms of what she/he feels OR is it physically alive like human beings who have been born?

2) Francis said &quot;human life begins begins before conception&quot; -- I think the development of human life begins at conception as opposed to being a fully fledged human life. How definitive is human life ?

3) I definitely agree with you that abortion is case-specific but I think the issue with abortion today is extreme anti-abortionists who accost girls attending the termination clinics. I believe that they, the fundamentalists, are at the core of the abortion debate now in the west because they are instilling a sense of fear upon the young girls who have made their choice.

Thanks for reading
