No Plez, Looks like I am the last one coming in on the party. Great work is being done by everyone. As for youth violence in the community, I noticed here in Fort Worth, Texas, the Crips, who had been released from prison, recently held a community get-together to makes amends for the terror they reigned in the neighborhood back in the 1980s and 1990s. I wish that I could tell all the good local stories in reducing crime and violence. We are bringing our community back under control. How about you?

Does the Afrosphere Demand a National Single-Payer Health Care System in which Everyone in America Has a Legal Right to Necessary Medical Treatment?

Thanks, Asabagna!

In a post entitled "It's never sunny in Killadephia," Field Negro expresses profound alarm at the level of intractable violence in our communities. Many of us are deciding that we want to unite ourselves and our blogs into an cohesive Afrosphere/Blackosphere movement to address the greatest problems that face our communities and our world. To that end, and in response to Field Negro's article, I've posted an article entitled, "Can the Afrosphere Help to Reduce Urban Violence," in which I brainstorm some fresh ideas about how our blog technology might be used to make our urban communities less violent.

Please tell me what you think. If you find one good idea among half a dozen, or see value in the new graphic, then it'll have been well worth the effort.

Asabagna:

I really like this idea, and the spear convinces me of the power of the Afrosphere. Nonetheless, please have a look a (first-draft) graphic that I did on the benefits of the Blackosphere name vs. the Afrosphere name. (I did a first-draft in Paint with the idea of doing a better job in CorelDraw when I have a free moment.)

This is to help us think about the choice between Afrosphere and Blackosphere and to clarify why we make the choice we do. I posted four reasons that I like "Blackosphere", but the advocates of "Afrosphere" such as yourself and Exodus Mentality are best placed to post the reasons for Afrosphere, so that we can unite with one name, or unite as one with two names that we use interchangeably, like "Black" and "African American". I think unity and collaboration are more important than the choice of a name, and so I would never let the choice of a name (from among names that are arguably synonyms) dissuade me from pursuing the unity and collaboration. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p316/francislholland/Blackospherev.png
